Lunch explores the complex relationship between social class, time constraints, and dietary habits within the framework of a typical week. While fresh, nutrient-rich ingredients are often considered the foundation of a healthy diet, they remain inaccessible to many due to economic and time limitations. Drawing from her own experiences, Vania reflects on the reliance on fast food and processed meals during hectic weekdays, driven by convenience and limited access to healthier options. Weekends, in contrast, offer a short weekend shopping to purchase fresh ingredients, fostering a compensatory mentality, an attempt to alleviate the guilt of poor weekday choices. However, social activities with friends or family during weekends can complicate the maintenance of nutritious eating habits, highlighting the persistent struggle to achieve dietary balance.
Through this work, she invites viewers to reflect on their eating habits, consider the societal structures that shape them, and question the systemic inequalities embedded in our daily routines.
